Cecily Mahan, 1st Violin
Cecily has a bachelor degree in music performance and a masters degree in education. She works as a strings teacher in the Shawnee Mission School District along with maintaining a private violin studio. Cecily also arranges selections for the quartet and is our piano accompanist when requested. In addition to her beautiful arrangements for string quartet, Cecily also writes and arranges music for her orchestras and has had several of her works published.
LaVonne McDaniel, 2nd Violin
LaVonne has both bachelor and a master degree in violin performance and maintains a successful Suzuki violin studio with over 50 violin students. LaVonne also conducts the chamber orchestra at the Mid-America Nazerine College music department.
Laura Myers, Viola
Laura played and studied with Dr. Kimber, the University of Kansas viola professor, while pursuing a degree in civil engineering. She has taught violin and viola in addition to playing in numerous community orchestras. Laura is a civil engineer with a local consulting firm.
Amy Harris, Cello
Amy has both a bachelor and master degree in cello performance and has completed coursework toward her Doctorate. She has performed with orchestras and as a chamber musician in the U.S., Europe and Japan. Prior to moving to the Kansas City area, Amy taught cello at Bethany College. In addition to her work with the Sunflower String Quartet, Amy performs in concert and maintains a successful cello studio.
